News Report: Recent Report Gives Assessment of Senior Centers in San Diego

San Diego Seniors Community Foundation president and CEO Bob Kelly appeared on KUSI this week to discuss our recent assessment of San Diego senior centers, and the work that needs to be done to prepare our community for the major demographic change ahead.

“We’re going to have a million seniors by the year 2030, and a third of them will be senior orphans. These people have no one they can turn to and trust,” said Kelly.

“New senior centers will have trained social workers and gerontologists who can connect them with all of the services that a senior needs – healthcare issues, transportation issues – so it’s no longer just come in, play some cards … it’s about the physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing of seniors.”
