Op-Ed: It’s Time to Mobilize in Support of LGBTQ Seniors

By the year 2030, 1 in 4 San Diegans will be age 60 or older. This “silver tsunami” will strain the already fragile network of existing services for seniors. Within that population, the aging LGBTQ community faces an even greater set of challenges. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender seniors are twice as likely to age alone and four times less likely to have children who can care for them in old age. In an op-ed for Gay San Diego, SDSCF Founder, CEO & President Bob Kelly argues it’s time to mobilize in support of LGBTQ seniors.
