The San Diego Seniors Community Foundation received commendations from San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and Councilwoman Monica Montgomery-Steppe for our support and advocacy efforts for the Fourth District Senior Resource Center. The awards were presented at the George L. Stevens Senior Community Center during the 16th Annual Black History Month Fundraiser on February 19.
The theme of the evening’s event was Turning Stumbling Blocks into Stepping Stones. Among the highlights was a special remembrance of George L. Stevens, the former Fourth District Councilman who was so instrumental in the establishment of the center and who did so much for his community. It was a celebration of the tireless work of so many community members who make the Fourth District Senior Resource Center (FDSRC) such a special place. Most notably, there was the recognition of the commitment and dedication of Executive Director of the FDSRC, Rosemary Pope, whose twenty-five years of service to the center is an inspiration for anyone who desires to make a lasting impact on the lives of older adults throughout San Diego County.
SDSCF is honored to have been recognized for our work with the FDSRC and will continue to lead the efforts in making senior centers throughout the County a valuable community-based service option for both today’s and tomorrow’s older adults.
