With the support of County of San Diego Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Nora Vargas and San Diego City Councilmember Chris Cate, we are introducing the “San Diego Master Plan for Senior Centers” to the public.
The SDSCF’s Master Plan provides a comprehensive analysis of the region’s senior centers, highlighting the disparities that exist in our lower-income neighborhoods. The plan recommends improvements or additions needed to be customized to every community to adequately serve local seniors as the older population grows.
The plan identifies $147 million of specific upgrades and new building costs, and SDSCF will speak to the next steps and initial grants and pilot programs to execute the plan.
The goal is to build awareness and support for the urgent need for upgrading and building new local senior centers to combat senior isolation, loneliness, and depression among San Diego’s increasing older adult population.
