Change brings new opportunities, and today, we are excited to introduce the newest leader at the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation—Junne Esguerra, our new Director of Programs!
Junne joins us with a long-standing dedication to serving vulnerable communities and a personal mission to uplift seniors. Her leadership, shaped by both professional expertise and lived experience, will help create lasting change for older adults across San Diego County.
A Leader with a Purpose

Junne steps into this role following the exceptional leadership of Joe Gavin. She brings with her a profound dedication to senior advocacy.
For Junne, helping seniors is a personal mission driven by her own life experiences. After her mother suffered a stroke and faced the challenges of aging, Junne saw firsthand how vital senior services and community support are. The experience reinforced her belief that no senior should face aging alone, and she’s committed to ensuring that seniors throughout our region have access to the programs, resources, and companionship they need to thrive.
Her commitment deepened during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she witnessed the devastating effects of social isolation on older adults. Now, she is determined to expand and enhance SDSCF’s programming to strengthen senior centers, promote social connection, and advocate for policies that support aging with dignity and purpose.
A Wealth of Experience
Junne brings an impressive background in social services, nonprofit management, and program development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and a Master’s in Public Administration, equipping her with the knowledge and expertise to drive meaningful change. Over the past 20 years, she has dedicated her career to case management, program administration, and building collaborative partnerships that support seniors, at-risk youth, individuals experiencing homelessness, and people with disabilities.
As our Director of Programs, Junne will oversee SDSCF’s initiatives, including grants administration, business development, and program operations. She will also work towards expanding opportunities for seniors and to ensure they receive the resources, social connections, and care they deserve.
A Heart for Service
Junne’s passion for helping others began early. Growing up in the Philippines, she spent time volunteering with her mother at a local orphanage—an experience that shaped her lifelong commitment to community service. That same spirit of compassion and dedication now fuels her mission to uplift and empower older adults in San Diego.
Beyond her professional work, Junne is a warm and vibrant presence. She is bilingual in Tagalog and enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. She believes in the power of human connection, and her leadership will reflect that belief as she fosters relationships with seniors, partners, and the broader community.
Looking Ahead
Junne’s vision for SDSCF is clear: a community where seniors are valued, supported, and never forgotten. She is eager to collaborate with local leaders, nonprofits, and advocates to create sustainable solutions that improve the lives of older adults. With her expertise, passion, and drive, we know she will lead SDSCF’s programs to new heights.
“I am honored to join SDSCF and to be part of a mission that ensures every older adult in San Diego has the support, resources, and community they deserve. I am proud to join the aging services network in San Diego and collaborate with this deeply committed workforce spanning all roles and ranks. It is a privilege to do work I truly love!” Junne said. “My passion for this work is deeply personal, and I am committed to strengthening and bringing awareness of the positive impact of senior centers, fostering social connections, and advocating for aging with dignity. No senior should feel alone, and I’m excited to help create a future where every older adult feels valued, seen, and supported.”
Please join us in giving Junne a warm welcome! We look forward to the impact she will make as we continue our mission to ensure that every senior in San Diego can age with dignity, connection, and joy.
Welcome to the team, Junne!
